Our Attorneys

Ferrell & Brown, PLLC is a law firm founded by Joshua S. Ferrell and Nathan D. Brown, which serves clients through West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. Although the idea to open a firm together had first originated in 2011, while Josh was working as a Judicial Law Clerk and Nathan was still in law school, Ferrell & Brown, PLLC, was not founded until November 2014. At the time, Josh and Nathan were operating successful solo practices and working as Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys for Mingo County, West Virginia. The attorneys enjoyed their practices but knew that by combining they could better serve their clients and the Appalachian area as a whole.

While embarking on his journey in private practice, Nathan served as a formidable Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Mingo County from 2014 until 2022, where he honed his litigation skills. Complementing this role, Nathan has also lent his legal prowess to the City of Williamson as the Municipal Attorney since 2019, demonstrating his versatility and commitment to upholding the law at various government levels.

Elevating his career further, Nathan worked in the corporate world as a Human Resource Director for a Fortune 500 company. In this capacity, he navigated complex labor laws and regulatory frameworks, crafting HR strategies with a legal perspective.

Elected Service:

A respected figure in the political arena, Nathan's influence transcended the legal field when he was elected to the West Virginia State Legislature, serving from 2018 to 2022. His tenure is distinguished by his impactful contribution as the Minority Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee, and a member of the Banking and Insurance and Industry and Labor committees. Currently, Nathan continues to shape policy and drive community initiatives as the President of the Mingo County Commission, a role he has embraced since 2022.

Personal Life:

Away from legal briefs and the politics, Nathan is an avid outdoorsman. Whether he is enjoying the picturesque landscapes of West Virginia or coaching in youth athletics, Nathan cherishes every moment spent with his family. Together with his wife, Brandy, and his three sons, Garrett, Grayson, and Gavin, Nathan relishes the balancing act of legal practice, public service, and family life.

Joshua S. Ferrell's legal prowess is rooted in a strong academic background. As a proud graduate of Marshall University, Joshua laid the groundwork for his legal ambitions emphasizing English and legal studies courses. Following Marshall, he attended the Appalachian School of Law. There, he distinguished himself by graduating at the top of his class, Magna Cum Laude, while also working at a local law firm, volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), and becoming a National Champion in Moot Court. He excelled in multiple disciplines, as evidenced by his Book Awards in key subjects: Criminal Procedure, Family Law, Business Associations, and Alternative Dispute Resolution. Joshua’s academic achievements culminated in his participation on National Moot Court Teams and his victory at the 2009 Herbert Wechsler National Moot Court Competition, marking him as a formidable advocate with a passion for legal arguments.

Professional Journey

Joshua's professional journey mirrors the rigor of his academic pursuits. He commenced his career with esteemed clerkships with an U.S. District Judge in the Western District of Virginia and a Circuit Court Judge in the 30th Judicial Circuit of West Virginia. These experiences have given him a deep insight into judicial processes and the mechanics of court deliberations. Following his clerkships, Joshua opened Ferrell Law Office, PLLC, which he operated until opening Ferrell & Brown, PLLC. Additionally, he has served the people of Mingo County, West Virginia, as an Assistant Prosecutor since 2013.

Licensure and Admissions

Stepping beyond, Joshua has been licensed to practice across the Appalachian Region: West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and he holds admissions to the United States Supreme Court, both the Fourth and Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as various United States District Courts. His practice is regional in scope, and he brings a comprehensive understanding of multi-jurisdictional law to each case he handles.

Additionally, he is active in organizations and activities for betterment of the community and providing opportunities to the local youth.

Coaching and Volunteering

Joshua understands the importance of investing in the youth and promotes it by coaching little league football, basketball, and baseball. He also sponsors and volunteers for multiple youth and community activities. His efforts are geared toward creating opportunities, fostering talents, and supporting communal growth through participation and engagement. Joshua believes in the importance of being of service to his community.

Personal Life

Outside the office, Joshua is devoted to his wife, Tiara, and takes great joy in family life with their children, Justice and Journey. A CrossFit enthusiast, Joshua embraces an active lifestyle, and his leisure time is often spent traveling, hiking, piloting, and relishing the outdoors with his family.

Tracie Meadows

OFFICE MANAGER


At the operational helm of Ferrell & Brown, PLLC, is Tracie Meadows, whose dedication and commitment to excellence have become a crucial component of the firm's success. Tracie, a proud graduate of Williamson High School, brings the kind of personal dedication that resonates with both the team and our clients.

Her experience is backed by a certification in Office Management from IAP Career College, setting a standard of professionalism and skill that guides our firm’s daily rhythm. Tracie's demonstrates a devotion to the legal field, beginning with the Mingo County Circuit Court Clerk's Office and transitioning to Ferrell Law Office, PLLC, and now Ferrell & Brown, PLLC.

What truly sets Tracie apart is her compassionate approach to management—rooted in a friendly disposition and an unwavering dedication to not only the firm's goals but also the individual needs of our clients. Her presence elevates the firm's environment to one of warmth and welcoming, a testament to her kindness and professionalism.

Tracie's heart, however, belongs to her family. Married to her high school sweetheart, Dawayne Meadows, she is a nurturing mother to Marissa and a doting grandmother to Parker and Jonas. Tracie also remains active and involved in her church.

Jeanna Evans

Jeanna Evans embraces her role as a Legal Assistant by personal dedication to each client's well-being. A graduate of Mingo Central, Jeanna's journey in law began shortly after with experience in law offices in Kentucky and West Virginia.

Working with personal injury and medical negligence cases, Jeanna has become well-versed in the intricacies of these challenging fields. Her knowledge is exceeded only by her compassion, as she brings a gentle, understanding, and empathetic approach to those affected by injury. Jeanna's work is fueled by a desire to see justice served, with her support providing clients a comforting constant in the often-tumultuous aftermath of personal injury.

Life's most meaningful moments have shaped Jeanna into the person she is today. She pours love not only into her work but also into her home, shared with her husband Taylor Weddington, and their two daughters, Addi and Everleigh. With their third daughter on the way, Jeanna and Taylor stay busy entertaining and enjoying their children.

Marissa is a graduate of Regional Christian School, where she first honed her analytical skills—a foundation she built upon while earning her bachelor’s degree in History and a master's degree in Business With a long record in legal offices, Marissa excels in delivering services with a diligent and meticulous work ethic that reflects both her historical precision and her strategic business acumen.

Family is the cornerstone of Marissa’s life. Married to, Zachary, she is a devoted mother to two sons, Parker and Jonas, whose spirited natures keep Marissa busy.
